Skin Tags (also known as acrochordons) are very common flesh-colored, benign (not cancerous) skin growths.
Signs and Symptoms of Skin Tags
Skin tags are most frequently found on the neck, eyelids, armpits, and groin. They are skin-colored growths typically on a thin stalk and often vary in size from small to large.
Causes of Skin Tags
The cause of acrochordons is unknown. However, there are many theories. Irritation or friction on the skin including skin rubbing may play a role.
Self-Care for Skin Tags
No treatment is necessary. However, if these lesions become bothersome or irritated, you may desire removal.
Skin Tag Treatment
Skin tags may be treated by:
- Snipping with scissors,
- Freezing with liquid nitrogen (cryosurgery), and/or
- Electrodissection, in which skin tags are destroyed using an electrical current.
